Have you heard of a spending freeze? Have you ever tried one? I’ve decided it’s time for me to try it. My husband is interested but not sure how to ease into it. I am going to try a personal one in preparation for the whole family to do it together. The basic idea is to pick a period of time and not spend money on anything non-essential. There are a lot of ways that can look.
Here is what I am going to try: starting today, for 2 weeks, I’m not going to spend any money besides paying bills. I’ve just gone grocery shopping, but I always go again sooner than I need to, so we’re going to eat out of the freezer and pantry when it gets to that point. I am going to give myself $100 to try not to spend, and it will be available for any essentials that come up like toilet paper or baby food.
I’ll provide an update here in two weeks! I hope to practice contentment, gratitude and creativity. I also hope to have more money to put on debt, since paying off credit card debt is one of our big goals for this year, along with building up an emergency savings fund.
I’m going to use my Time Sheet to log what I eat and what I buy or don’t buy, and how I’m feeling about it all.
